Been a little while... but been busy!

Hello all - just wanted to update some of what we've been doing. First of all, we now have (perhaps) an official logo:

At this point, through there may be some changes, the logo is pretty well set, along with the motto.

We are also in the process of determining what form we will take as a company - right now we're looking at a LLP or an S corp but we haven't ruled out nonprofit corp yet. That's what people in suits are for. :-)

The web site is in the planning and flowchart stages, and there is a 5 month timeline set up for key tasks and milestones in 4 separate 'tracks': legal, marketing, technical, and content. A preliminary large-scale budget for the next six months has also been drafted. Once we decide on the company structure, we'll file the DBA and start on the proper forms!

Very exciting times - our tentative launch date, fittingly, is 7/4/09. ;-)

I will be continuing to blog about the WePeople.org progress as well as my personal thoughts about all things political and current. Stay tuned...

Welcome to the blogosphere for WePeople.org!!

Well, after months of figuratively sitting on the couch of indecision, I've finally, on this my thirty-third anniversary of life (!), gotten cracking on this project, which is so truly important to me both as a citizen of America and as a denizen of the modern world.

So what is WePeople.org? Or more specifically, what will it be?

Well, I have some basic ideas. The core principle is that it be a free place on the web where people can gather to share ideas and thoughts about the state of our country. In my mind's eye (and in my design mockups), it will be a site where you can create a profile about yourself and literally click on any part of the country (state districts, states, etc) to send ideas and feedback directly to participating elected officials. The official would then be able to let you know the status of your idea, or even to ask for more information!

Initially, I would like to limit it to state representatives and U.S. senators - keep the number of contacts relatively small while still covering the entire geographical U.S. Eventually, if the idea takes off, I would like to focus on cities and towns, while keeping the ideals of transparent government and a seamless interface between elected officials and their constituents strong.

At this time, WePeople.org is a community of one (me), plus some interested people who like the idea and are basically waiting for further instructions. If this concept sounds at all interesting, please contact me or comment me - anybody who wants to change the world is welcome to join!

At the least, this ought to be interesting.
